Help When and Where You Need It With Forensic DNA Consulting
DNA analysis and forensic biology testing are scientific and therefore unbiased procedures which provide useful evidence for the prosecution and/or defense in criminal investigations. At Sorenson Forensics, we offer forensic DNA consulting via on-site processing and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) using the latest tools and procedures then subjected to comprehensive testing and analysis performed in our multi-accredited laboratory.
DNA analysis is now commonly considered as admissible evidence in court proceedings. Today, juries expect DNA evidence to be presented during trial when a sexual assault or murder is involved. DNA analysis is scientific and therefore unbiased procedure, providing useful evidence for the prosecution as well as the defense.
DNA was not used as a forensic tool in the United States prior to 1986. For this reason, the courts are allowing cases to be reopened if evidence or technology unavailable at the time of the original trial (such as DNA) provides information that will exonerate a wrongly convicted individual.
DNA is the only permanent human record that lasts a lifetime. Unforeseen future circumstances may require a fast DNA sample for identification. Such situations can include, abductions, missing persons, paternity and infidelity issues, accidents, fires, and natural disasters

Certified accident reconstruction experts may add one more tool to their array of investigative techniques through the use of DNA. Sorenson Forensics uses DNA analysis to determine the occupants’ positions within a vehicle (driver or passenger status) at the time of impact. By analyzing a deployed driver’s airbag, we can often make such a determination. The force behind a deploying airbag delivers the “punch” necessary to generate and deposit DNA samples on the airbag in the form of nasal mucus, saliva, and/or blood.
The accident investigator merely needs to cut the stained section from the deployed airbag or seize the entire airbag and retain it as evidence until DNA analysis may be performed. Defense strategy in automobile accidents often revolves around the issue of who was operating the vehicle when the accident occurred. With DNA results to confirm the identity of the driver, the issue is no longer a point of contention.
As part of our consulting services, we painstakingly review the entire case file to include all items stemming from the original agency’s findings. A short list of items typically encompassed in the comprehensive review include:

Breathe new life into old cases that became cold due to a lack of physical evidence. Using new DNA technology and many advanced techniques, we can now pull DNA from samples that were too difficult or too small previously.
Until DNA, fingerprints were considered a reliable form of establishing identity. However, fingerprints have been seen to change as a child grows or can be altered by a person’s occupation, scars, or burns. DNA has proved to be the most reliable form of human identification to date.
Having a DNA sample tucked away securely provides peace-of-mind and crucial evidence for whenever you might need to know for sure. We offer a special DNA identification, collection, and storage kit which enables the user to easily provide a sample specimen and then mail it to our laboratory for storage. This offers a foolproof identification that is better than fingerprinting.
